SEPTEMBER 2010 ISSUE

Destination Equitation
An 8-day Celebration of Equestrian Excellence
in The Hills of Headwaters

Taking place from September 11th to September 18th, Destination Equitation offers something for equine enthusiasts of every level.

On Saturday, September 11th the event kicks off with a Breeders' Parade of Horses on Broadway from 9:00 am to 10:00 am that will showcase all breeds and sizes of horses, parading along the streets of Orangeville, and displaying their skills and finery for all to see. Following the opening parade, visitors are encouraged to visit one of stables participating in our Private Circuit Stable Tour throughout the region. From 10am to 4pm, stables that generally never open their doors to the public will open their gates and give visitors a sneak peak of their incredible facilities and operations.

The Orangeville Fairgrounds will be the focus of equine activity on the opening weekend. Saturday, September 11th features Fieldstone Farm Breeders’ Show featuring Warmbloods, Canadian Sport Horses and the RAWF Star Search Pony Qualifier, as well as an equine fair featuring suppliers, tack stores, boarding and riding stables.

On Sunday, September 12th the equestrian fair continues, with demonstrations and workshops featuring everything from riding and jousting demonstrations, handling workshops, grooming seminars, and other industry specific workshops, providing insight and information to everyone involved in the business.

Forging Competition

A Forging Competition and clinic on Sunday brings together up to 30 competitors in three different classes who will be vying for prize money and the title of champion.

Wednesday, September 15th highlights the "Art of the Horse" and will bring together painters, photographers and other award-winning artisans who specialize in horse art at Deerfields Stables in Palgrave. Come out for a great evening of light refreshments, and learn how to draw a horse with Mark Grice, hear about the history of thoroughbred racing in Canada with Louis Cauz, author of the 150th Anniversary of the Queen’s Plate and Managing Director of the Canadian Thoroughbred Sports Hall of Fame, meet award winning racing photographer Dave Landry, equestrian artists Jenn Pratt and Peter Adams. 5:30 to 8:30 pm

On Thursday, September 16th Destination Equitation hosts a provincial forum on the Future of the Equestrian Industry in Ontario. Industry leaders, provincial and municipal politicians and industry stakeholders will be invited to hear panel discussions under the leadership of Dr. Bob Wright, followed by a gala dinner featuring keynote speaker Akaash Maharaj, CEO of Equine Canada. This provincial forum will investigate how the equine industry can continue to work together to expand industry growth and sustainability, as part of provincial and regional economic development strategies.

Rawhide Adventures, Public Stable Tour

On Friday, September 17th the Credit Valley Conservation presents an Equine Environmental Stewardship workshop, Merial Canada hosts Equine Parasites: The New World with Dr. Alison Moore, DVM, DVSc, DACVIM, and we will once again presenting an Equine Rescue Certification program with instructor Jennifer Woods.

The event closes on Saturday, September 18th with the Eglinton Caledon Hounds opening hunt of the season and the Public Circuit Stable Tour featuring regional equestrian facilities including riding and boarding facilities, training stables and riding camp locations.

Rhine Stone Cowgirl

RHINESTONE COWGIRL - A Tribute to Dolly Parton
“A toe-tapping tribute to the country music legend”

We invite you to join Leisa Way and The Wayward Wind for this sensational live concert - Rhinestone Cowgirl: A Tribute to Dolly Parton! Much loved for her Patsy Cline tribute concerts, Leisa Way literally erupts onto the stage in a flurry of feathers, fringe and bejewelled finery. This fabulous new concert is designed to leave audiences amazed, hugely entertained and clamouring for more. The one-liners, and commentaries Way delivers throughout the Tribute ("You folks paid a lot to come here tonight, and frankly I need the money. It costs a lot to look this cheap!") are entertaining and revealing.

However, the real magic lies in hearing Way sing Dolly's songs. Backed up by a terrifically talented band which includes Bruce Ley, Dave Wilson, Randall Kempf (Kenny Rogers), Kim Ratcliffe and Aaron Solomon (Porter Wagoner), Way performs hits from every era of Parton's career, including; 9 to 5, I Will Always Love You, Jolene, Two Doors Down, Here You Come Again, Coat of Many Colours, Islands in the Stream and Why'd You Come In Here Looking Like That.

What a band! What a show! What a lady! Morrisburg Leader … May 2010

Sept. 23, 24 and 25 - 8 pm. Sept. 26 - 2 pm. Tickets can be purchased on-line at www.theatreorangeville.ca or by calling the Theatre Orangeville Box Office at 519-942-3423.
